Red Lake

This summer, Northwood Student Life is heading to the Red Lake Indian Reservation for our short term mission trip. The Red Lake Indian Reservation is home to the Red Lake Band of Chippewa. It is a “closed” reservation, meaning residents must have a certain percentage of Tribe blood to live on the land. Approximately 40% of the residents live below the poverty level. There is a paradoxical mix of great pride and culture, and great fear for the future of the people of the Red Lake Nation. This trip will engage you with a place and culture that is vastly different than anything else you’ve experienced.
