It is God’s dream that ALL people would know His love and desire a relationship with Him through Jesus Christ. (John 3:16, 1 Tim 2:4) As followers of Jesus we have been told to GO (Matt 28:19) and help fulfill this dream by introducing people to Jesus Christ through not just the words we say, but by our actions and how we live (Luke 24:47-48, Matt 5:16). The end result would be that others would believe in Jesus and want to become more like Him. We have also been told to stop focusing on ourselves so much and to start truly loving our neighbors (Mark 12:31). So who are our neighbors? They are the people who live right next door, and around the world. They are people here, there, and everywhere (Acts 1:8). We also GO knowing we don't go alone or on our own strength. We GO in the name of Christ knowing the Holy Spirit lives in us and has gone ahead of us (John 6:44), that we are each just part of the process in people’s lives (1 Corinth 3:6), and that we may be asked to sacrifice our own needs and preferences in order to reach someone with the love of Jesus. (1 Corinth 9:22) We also GO with a special emphasis on cross-cultural ministry and ministry to the poor because this is what Jesus has modeled for us: “preaching good news to the poor, proclaiming freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, and to release the oppressed, proclaiming the year of the Lord’s favor.” (Luke 4:18-19) God has a special heart for the poor, the hungry, the widow, the orphan, the alien, and so should we.
